urban, local, & public historian
Hope Shannon, Ph.D., is a public historian who specializes in heritage and memory politics, local history organizations, and urban history. She’s currently the Coordinator of Career Diversity for Historians at the American Historical Association and the Executive Director of the Urban History Association. She also consults with Omnia History, a public history collaborative she co-founded with Rachel Boyle, Ph.D., in 2017. Hope is a former executive director of the South End Historical Society in Boston, MA, and has been working with local history institutions in Boston and Chicago to help them reach their fullest potential as vital community assets for more than ten years.
